CHAPLAIN
The chaplains at Homestead Hospice provide spiritual support to our patients, their families and caregivers. Our
chaplains do not have any spiritual or religious "agenda." They are specially trained to help guide our patients
and their families through this very difficult time. They are there to listen without judgment, guide our
patients and their families to peace and acceptance spiritually and assist patients that are feeling socially
isolated during this time. Their visits can be alone with a patient or together with the family present. They may
also meet with different members of the family one on one, if needed. The chaplain visit frequencies are determined
at their first visit, when they complete their initial spiritual assessment. It can change based upon the changing
needs of the family unit. The chaplains at Homestead Hospice also provide support and counsel to the hospice
staff.
Chaplains complete a spiritual assessment for patients admitted to Hospice care within four days of the
patient's admission.
Like our social workers, the Hospice chaplain will reach out to the community for resources that will best meet
the needs of each individual patient and family. In addition, at Homestead Hospice, they are an integral part of
our Bereavement Program.
