WHAT IS HOSPICE?
Hospice care is a specialized care designed to provide support to patients and
their loved ones during the final phase of a terminal illness. Hospice care focuses on comfort and quality of
life, rather than a cure. The purpose of hospice care is neither to end nor prolong life, but rather to relieve
the pain and discomfort of symptoms and give support to patients and their families during "life’s most
important journey."
Hospice is a philosophy of care designed specifically to meet the needs of individuals who are in
the final stages of their lives due to a terminal illness. In some cases, this type of care is also referred to
as palliative or comfort care.
Homestead Hospice care provides physical, emotional and spiritual support not only to the patient,
but also to the patient’s family and loved ones. These services help patients manage their terminal illness at
home or in a home-like environment when they elect to no longer seek aggressive treatment or medical care.
We focus on comfort, symptom management and quality of life and address a wide range of problems
from pain to depression. Hospice is as much a philosophy as it is a discipline, blending the science of pain
management with a holistic approach to emotional and spiritual matters that reach far beyond the traditional
concepts of medicine.
Hospice caregivers believe the last months of life can be a time of continued growth, both personally and
spiritually, with dignity and respect. Let us help you learn, teach, console, enjoy, plan and cherish each other
during this time of your life.
